Netball

Netball is a thriving sport within the Khoja community globally with Stanmore boasting several excellent netball players.

It is arguably the flagship and most hotly contested sport at tournaments such as MAMT and the Unity Games. Despite the healthy rivalry displayed on court, netball has been the source of building sisterhood across Jamaats in the UK and globally including Birmingham, Hyderi, Mombasa, Nairobi and Dubai.

Stanmore have seen a number of highly successful MAMT tournaments over the years with the “Old Stars” and more recently the “Young Stars” winning the majority of the MAMT netball tournaments over the last decade and more. The highlight of Stanmore Jafferys netball achievements came at the Unity Games 2019 where the Stanmore Aces reached the semi finals losing narrowly to the Stanmore Queens who took home the coveted Cup. Two Stanmore teams contested the Unity Games 2023 final where Shooting Stars overcame Tiger Cubs in extra time in a closely fought game,

Netball sessions take place weekly at St Helens School, Northwood with sessions held under the famous Dome over the winter months. SJ also participates in the winter and summer ‘I Heart Netball Social League’ and holds internal friendly competitions such as “The Great Netball Play Offs”, “Best of the Best” and “Switch It Up”.

Our focus in recent years has turned to youth netball with coach-led sessions on Sunday afternoons at Northwood School to nurture the growing crop of talented young netball players with the community. Girls from the ages of 8-15 have been participating regularly in external competitions with a view to entering a youth league in the near future.
