SunFunRun Celebrates 3rd Anniversary with First 10k Run
19th January 2020
In December 2019, SunFunRun celebrated its third anniversary and on 19th January 2020, completed it’s very first 10k run!
Here are some words from Running Coach & Founder of SunFunRun, Shama Meghjee-Caine:
Sunday Fun Run started on 11th December 2016 with a handful of ladies walking/jogging around Centenary Park mainly to improve our fitness level. Three years on, we have come so far and completed our very own 10km race. I am so grateful to all the ladies who turn up week in week out and we have such a laugh every Sunday. Please read the testimonials below from some of the ladies and I hope this inspires more people to join us. SunFunRun is a free session open to ladies of all ages and abilities, we have ladies who walk and some who run very fast; the one hour session is varied to cater for all abilities. We meet at Kenton Recreation Ground every Sunday at 10am.
SunFunRun 10k Testimonials
It all started on a tube journey one fine crisp morning in December. A few of us were headed for a 10k run and our super motivator Shama casually mentioned her training program for her marathon run at some point. And so began the thought process for the sunfunrun 10k!
A group of ladies from all age groups who are extremely inspirational and motivated took on the challenge and completed the 10k on Sunday 19 January 2020. It was a chilling morning and I’m sure everyone thought they’d much rather be in bed but we all turned up like excited children waiting for instructions. The task was completed by all with a run, jog walk and off course a lot of chit chat! On the home stretch, the prize was waiting – a hot cup of coffee and croissant.
All in all it was a lovely morning supported by truly amazing women and we even received a medal. A big thank you to Shama for organising this and long live SunFunRun!

The date – 19 January 2020 – was a memorable one for us as this was the day that the SunFun runners walked the 10k walk led, inspired and encouraged by Shama Some of us ran, some jogged and some walked but we all had the same goal in mind – to achieve the milestone on that frosty morning

On 19th January our coach Shama organised the first 10k fun run. We started at Morrisons in Hatch End and went to Stanmore Station and back to Morrisons. We were 26 ladies and I decided to walk in a group of four. I had never done 10k before and was very apprehensive. So I messaged Shama and shared my concerns. She kindly reassured me that everything will be ok and that I will be able to do it. I can proudly say that I was fine and managed to finish. I felt so proud and had a lot of fun too. The best part was getting my first medal!
