A save the date was sent out.
Multiple sports were on offer.
A very important talk by one of our trustees was a main part of the event.
A sign up time was announced.
Ladies had set their alarms.
Within seconds of the sign up link becoming live, the sign ups flew in one after the other.
This event had not been held since Shahr Ramadhan 2019, therefore we were anxious on what the outcome would be – as it had been 4 long years since what used to be an annual event was last held as Covid disrupted our plans.
But much to our happiness, the evening was absolutely incredible. All tickets were sold out – both participants and spectators alike. For the spectators, they could watch the sports, they could mingle, they could play Carrom, and of course, they could have access to all the tasty food we had on offer. Food ranged from chicken wraps, to crisps, fruits, cookies, donuts, mojitos made by Sagira Jetha, chai made by Sabera Alloo, and more.
Towards the end of the night, everyone received a refreshing scoop of ice cream from Baskin Robbins (Hatch End) – huge thank you to BR for sorting us out with these scoops.
The sports on offer for the evening were Badminton, Football, Netball and Pilates, and all had wait lists which showed just how much this evening had been missed and craved by all.
At midnight, all sports came to a stop and everyone was gathered in 1 room. Samina Govani welcomed Safia Tharoo to deliver her talk. Safia started her talk by asking the crowd about what Stanmore Jafferys meant to them, and continued to remind the members that the current management team’s term is coming to an end, therefore for SJ ladies to continue, another group of ladies must step up. Sabiha Chagpar then led Dua Wahda where we all joined hands and recited in unison.
The evening ended with more sports, and the finals of the team sports Football and Netball.
It was a truly phenomenal evening, and we hope that SJ is able to run these types of events in years to come.
A huge thank you to the CPV who assisted on the night in keeping us all safe at the venue
