On the 27th June 2022 Stanmore Jafferys held their first ever 9 hole golf day at the 9 of Herts Golf Course, Rickmansworth
The day started with an incredible breakfast of chai, mandazi and lots of yummy bakery items. The sun was shining as the ladies went out on to the range to practice (and scope out their competition!)
The team draw then took place creating the following teams:
- Team Merali in One (who had a late addition in the form of the Head of Sports – Sabiha Chagpar – making her debut on the golf course)
- Team Pink (who despite only being drawn together on the day had all coincidently coordinated by wearing pink)
- Team Shyrose-y (who were the only ones prepared for the day with golf umbrellas)
As the ladies made their way to the first tee and stopped for a customary photo, the heavens opened and the winds began to howl making it a difficult course with crosswinds and a sluggish green. The format was Texas Scramble where each player tees off as normal. The best tee shot is chosen to be used for the next shot which each player attempts with the best shot being chosen as the starting point for the next shot.
The first four holes were tough with all teams struggling for par against the elements. As the rain began to clear and the winds died down, Team Shyrose-y took the lead with three pars in the next four holes before rounding off the course at hole 9 with a superb birdie putt by Raziya Merali.
After playing, the ladies enjoyed a lovely picnic lunch and the winners were revealed as Team Shyrose-y took the victory.
Despite the weather, it was wonderful to see the ladies display their skills from attending the learn to play and improvers sessions taught by PGA coach Harriet Key (and Sabiha who predominantly landed in the rough but had a go nonetheless!)
Alhamdulliah the inaugural golf day was a great success with ladies saying “what a wonderful day! Thank you to the organisers, can’t wait for the next one! :)” and “it was an amazing day, we must do this more often!”
InshAllah this is the first of many incredible golf days to come!
