Following the Notice of Elections for the roles of Head of Ladies Sports and Independent Female Trustee shared last Friday, we have received a number of questions about why these elections are required.
The structure chart for Stanmore Jafferys CIO is as follows:
All roles in the chart aside from the KSIMC of London (Hujjat) Trustee run for 3 year terms on a rotational basis: all female roles (elected and appointed) took effect from 2021-2024 with the next set of elections covering the period 2024-2027. The gents roles cover the term 2022-2025 the next election (to be held in 2025) will cover the period 2025-2028. The purpose of this system is to allow for some continuity on the Board.
The Independent Female Trustee roles currently held by Safia Tharoo (elected) and Suhaila Harji (appointment) have both reached the end of their term, with the elected role available for candidates to stand ahead of the AGM on 3rd May 2024.
In terms of the Head of Ladies Sports role, the previous head – Sabiha Chagpar – resigned part way through her term, and therefore the Board of Trustees were able to appoint a suitable and interested candidate (Aiman Poptani) to complete the remainder of Sabiha’s term as Head of Ladies Sports (i.e. until April 2024). The rest of Sabiha’s Management Committee (Samina Govani, Shaheen Meghji, Fatemah Rajabali, Fatema Zahra Hassan, Burayha Lalji and Gulshan Walji) have remained in place to serve out the rest of their term until April 2024.
In line with the constitution, an election now needs to be held for the term 2024-2027 for the role of Head of Ladies Sports with candidates able to stand as per the process here:
Notice of ElectionsAfter the AGM on 3rd May, the new Head of Ladies Sports will then appoint a female trustee on to the Board as well as appoint her new Management Committee to take over from the previous committee.
The elections will be held at SJ Clubhouse, WF House, Widewater Place, Moorhall Road, Harefield, UB9 6NS (further details about the AGM will be sent out within the formal notice, however, please save the date)
