Mummy & Me Ride – 21st February 2020
Following the successful launch of Stanmore Jafferys Ladies Cycling in the Autumn, the team have been trying to set up half term/holiday rides for Mummy & Me. After 3 unsuccessful attempts due to adverse weather, we began to doubt whether a Mummy & Me ride would ever happen!
On Friday 21st February, SJLC attempted to plan a ride to Aquadrome. Due to Storm Ciara and Storm Dennis, the Aquadrome route was extremely muddy with branches scattering the paths due to the gusty winds. The team decided to therefore change the route to Cassiobury Park.
Thankfully, the weather held out on the day. Despite the chill, 45 rides (17 mums and 28 kids) turned up in warm gloves and multiple layers. The riders were divided into 6 groups:
“Roaring Blues” led by Iffat Tejani & Sabiha Habib
“The Oranges” led by Mariam Bhimani & Fatim Gulamhussein
“Super Greens” led by Safia Tharoo & Fehmida Merali
“The Yellow Mellows” led by Aliya Merali & Tahera Dhalla
“The Purple Pacers” led by Tanveer Kanji
“The Reds” led by Fatim Panju
The ride started promptly at 10.30 with Fatim Panju briefing the group on the bike M-check and the group headed out to Cassiobury Park. The young riders even got a taste of how to ride two abreast on the road.
As per cycling tradition, the mums and kids were introduced to coffee and cake at Cha Cha Cha Café in Cassiobury Park.
We then headed back to Watford Cycle Hub, tacking a hill on the way. Well done to all the kids especially our youngest cyclings Yusuf Tharoo (age 7) & Maisum Ali Harji (age 7) for completing 8 miles on the day.
